Below you will see a sample of Late Model purses for two different night race tracks located within reasonable distance from each other. The total payout at Track #1 is slightly less, but they pay more money to start. Track #2, however, pays better from second through tenth. I'd like your thoughts as to which purse is better an why?
Please post your thoughts at the end of this blog. Thanks!!

Payout #1 - Their both good. The $1200 is a good winners payout but not to many tracks pay $220 to start and I think would have a better chance of drawing a good field of cars. It give the guys usually at the back a little bit more money in their pockets to help fund their racing efforts and keeps them at the track.
ReplyDeletePayout #1 - It gives more incentive to go for the win.
ReplyDeletePayout #2- payout one may pay mores but lets be realistic you are going to finish 2nd-20th more then 1st and its only 20 dollars more on payout 1 after 8th place and payout 2 pays at least 230 till 11th

ReplyDeleteTrack #2 is much better for the racer and the fans. You have some incentive for guys to actually race from 5th on back to 10th with purse #2. With purse #1, you will have racers dropping out of the feature as it is not worth racing and putting laps on a motor and tires for another $20 for a position. While purse #2 doesn't pay as much to start, it more than makes up for it in the middle portions of the finishing order.
ReplyDeleteAnother great topic, DJ!
I think what you pay in the B is actually more significant for most teams. Let's face it...even the best teams have off nights. The cars are for the most part very closely matched. So on a night where you don't make the show, recouping at least a little bit of money is pretty important. And to that end...the owner and the driver should NEVER have to pay for a pit pass!!!
ReplyDeletetrack #2 will get my vote. i just think its spread out better guys that finish 5th would like a better pay than $300.
ReplyDeletethanks, T3GJosh
I would rather race where they had payout 2 but either one is good when you compare it to other tracks in my area... Lets face it if most of us raced for money we wouldnt do it anyway but It is nice to win some money to offset the costs.
ReplyDeleteTrack #2 - I have heard time and time again that tracks don't "pay back" very well. I find it more of an incentive to see the payout evenly distributed through the field than an extra $20 to start. This is a problem where I live, most tracks around here are more like option #1 and the car counts are low.
ReplyDeleteI would say it depends on where your racing team is. A newbie who thinks they might just make the show, and has no real shot at a top 10 finish would obviously go for Track #1, a more experienced team would probably go for #2, as they figure to be in the Top 10 and want the bigger money.
ReplyDeleteGreat Topic DJ!
I think it depends on track, a 1500 dollar payout wouldnt b good as the 1200 if the track is PoDunk, Skyline gets 30 lm a nite but its 40mph racing cause track is lil and slick then u had southern last yr paying big money and drawing 25 cars, so with cost of fuel and how parts is getting guys pick were they think equipment wont get tore up. Great topic Jarrett
