Hey Hey Cinderella

If you're like me, you've either (A) found a live feed of the NCAA basketball tournament on your computer, (B) got every TV within a 2,000 square foot radius tuned into the games, or (C) suddenly got "sick" and went home at lunch.

Anyway you look at it, most of us love March Madness...and ALL of us love a Cinderella.  While I think we can all agree that the glass slipper doesn't fit as much in Dirt Late Model racing as we'd like, there have also been some pretty special upsets over the years.

The one that probably always stands out more than any other is Randy Boggs' unheralded win in the 1987 World 100.  But let's not forget about a few other remarkable runs over the years.

Marshall Green's 1997 DTWC win was widely considered a huge upset at the time, especially considering Green was relatively unknown outside of the southeast region. Jared Landers' win two years ago in the Topless 100 was certainly an upset win and one that younger fans likely won't forget anytime soon.  Let's not forget about Terry Phillips' 1999 Show-Me 100 victory.  While some will argue that it wasn't an upset because Phillips was basically a "regular" at West Plains, a look at the competition will tell a slightly different story.

And, although they weren't wins, Steve Smith's runner-up finish in the Eldora Million (2001) and Jerry Rice's bridemaid honors in the 2006 Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 are worthy of some recognition as well.

No matter who your favorite driver is, there’s no arguing the fact that we all love a Cinderella.  Here’s to hoping the glass slipper fits a time or two in 2012.
